Expanding the Dance Community!

November 13, 2012 § 1 Comment

Not only do NC Dance Festival artists perform for audiences across the state, but they lead master classes and mini-concerts in schools and community centers in every city the Festival visits.  In Greensboro, we plan a particularly extensive outreach component.  This year, Festival artists visited 5 public schools, one university, and the Greensboro Cultural Arts Center.  Here are a few photos from these fun classes!

Choreographer Carol Finley usually teaches college students at Meredith College in Raleigh, but these 4th graders at Peeler Open School for the Performing Arts had a great time in her Improvisation class!

Jason Aryeh, one of the local artists invited to perform in Greensboro, taught a high-energy fusion class at Eastern Guilford High School, blending West African and modern dance.  The students soon realized they had to think and move fast to keep up!

Gary Taylor, Founder and Artistic Director of the Winston Salem Festival, visited Weaver Academy, for an early morning ballet class.

Durham-based Gaspard Louis, a former dancer with Pilobolus, and the director of Gaspard & Dancers, taught an open community class at the Greensboro Cultural Arts Center.  Students and community members showed up to learn weight-sharing and partnering techniques for modern dancers in a challenging but fun class!
