Behind the scenes with Courtney Greer
August 29, 2011 § 3 Comments
Courtney Greer, one of this year’s touring artists, graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a BFA in Contemporary Dance. She is currently a National Board Certified Dance Educator at Enloe Magnet High School (Raleigh, NC) where she directs the Enloe Dance Ensemble. Her choreography and performance work has been produced at American Dance Festival’s Acts to Follow, the NC Dance Festival, West Virginia’s Goose Route Dance Festival, Cuba and Brussels, Belgium.
In this year’s Festival, she is presenting the work, “A Request To Be Met… Not To Be Answered.” Her dance plays with the uncomfortable quiet moments when an individual has to wait for an answer and how that awkwardness in relationships is communicated in movement.
Courtney recently gave us a sneak peak into her rehearsal process for this dance. In these videos, dancers Ronnie West, Kelsey Herbst, Kayla Haver, Jodie Saunders, Ashley Spears, and Molly Kirkpatrick rehearse phrases and partnering, and work on putting the dance together.
Like what you see? Catch the complete dance in Raleigh on September 10, in Charlotte on September 16, in Boone on October 27, in Greensboro on November 4, and in Wilmington on February 25!
Hear more from Courtney in a few weeks in an interview conducted by our summer intern, Rachel Silver!
Coming up: An interview with dancer/choreographer Diego Carrasco Schoch, and a glimpse of the local artists that will be performing alongside the Festival touring artists in Raleigh and Charlotte!
