Caroline Calouche and Co. is an aerial and contemporary dance company based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Founded in 2005, Caroline Calouche began with a group of three dancers to debut “Risk” in her hometown, Gastonia, NC. It was in 2006 that she began blending aerial dance with contemporary technique. Her company has performed in North Carolina, Charleston, Chattanooga, and Fort Worth, gaining a reputation of providing audiences with edgy and exciting performances. CC&Co. also holds aerial and dance classes taught by company dancers at three different locations.
CC&Co.’s Educational Programs benefit local schools by teaching them creativity, collaboration, communication, understanding, and respect. During the 2010-2011 school year, CC&Co. worked with Hunter Huss High School, East Gaston High School, Oakdale Middle School, Park Road Montessori School, Omni Montessori School and Eastover Elementary School.
The artistic director and founder of CC&Co., Caroline Calouche, graduated with two BFA degress in Ballet and Modern Dance from Texas Christian University. In addition to performing with her company, she has also performed with Martha Connerton/ Kinetic Works, Contemporary Dance/ Fort Worth, and Contemporary Ballet Dallas. She is currently an adjunct professor at UNC Charlotte. Caroline created and directs the Charlotte Dance Festival.
For the 2011-2012 NC Dance Festival, CC&Co. will be showing a new work, “Catch me!” This work is based on an exploration of the ways in which people help each other. Movement qualities will symbolize different personalities, using athletic contemporary technique and elements of contact improvisation.
