Behind the Scenes with E.E. Balcos/E.E. Motion

October 1, 2012 § 2 Comments

E.E. Balcos, artistic director of E.E. Motion and Associate Professor of Dance at UNC-Charlotte, presents his dance Poor Ellen (Part 2) on the 2012-13 Festival tour.  Take a look behind the scenes of this dance, based on a North Carolina murder ballad.  Hear E.E. and composer John Allemeier discuss their collaborative process of creating the music and dance for this original work, and check out photos from the dance.

Performers Audrey Baran, Melissa Jesse, Katie Matter and E.E. Balcos find the intensity of their characters on stage:

Intrigued?  Find out more from E.E. Balcos about this project and others in an interview with our own Dance Project intern Michele Trumble, to be posted in a few weeks.  Come see the full dance on Boone on October 25, Greensboro on November 3, Wilmington January 11, and Charlotte on January 26!

Up next on the blog: Meet Lauren Kearns, as she talks about her NCDF dance, Twister, and other work for her company, The Kearns Dance Project.
