NC Connection: Raleigh, NC

Eleanor Smith received her BFA in Dance from Florida State University and her MFA in Dance Choreography from UNC Greensboro.  She has taught and choreographed all over Florida and North Carolina. She has performed with 2B tribe company, John Gamble Dance Theatre and Even Exchange Dance Theater.  Her choreography has been shown at American College Dance Festival and the North Carolina Dance Festival, where she  served as technical director over the past decade. She is currently on staff at Meredith College and Arts Together, where she is a member of and choreographer for the Rainbow Dance Company.

Eleanor tells us about her NCDF 13-14 touring work and its history in NC: “The Mozart Effect is a study in music visualization.  The piece began as a response to research into the choreographic process of Mark Morris.”  The work premiered at UNC Greensboro in 2002, was chosen for the 2003 ACDFA Gala Concert, and brought back to the stage in the  Fall of 2012 at Meredith College.

Tune in Wednesday, Oct 16 to find out more about Eleanor’s choice to use Mozart, the costume design, and her teaching experience at Meredith College!
