Summer Internship Opportunities
The Dance Project is now accepting applications for internships during the Summer of 2014! Assistance is needed between May 12-August 8. These internships will provide opportunities to work for a non-profit organization and gain insight into the life of arts administration. An ideal intern candidate would be reliable and prompt, with strong verbal and written communication skills, and an interest in working with a community-minded organization. Dance Project, Inc. is an organization with three activities: a school, a festival, and a dance company. Positions available in the following areas:
Assist in the implementation and documentation of Dance Project’s summer outreach program at a Greensboro Recreation Center. During the month of July, summer campers participate in West African dancing and drumming classes for 2 hours each day. The last week of the program, the students perform in a series of community concerts around Greensboro. Intern will assist with the planning of the program, including performances, will attend the daily classes, and will document the program through photos and videos. Intern must: have reliable transportation, have experience and/or interest in working with youth ages 5-13, have experience with basic photo/video equipment, and be responsible, friendly, professional and reliable. Time frame: Approximately 8-10 hours/week from from mid June-Aug 8.
Marketing and Program Assistance
Assist the program director with preparations for the 2014-15 annual NC Dance Festival tour and June ADF/NCDF performance. Communicate with participating artists, maintain blog, draft press releases, update event calendars, solicit program ads, and other projects as assigned. Must have excellent writing and editing skills, be creative, detail-oriented, and work well independently. Previous experience with graphic design software, and social media highly preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required. Intern must have access to own laptop. Time frame: Approximately 6-8 hours/week from May 12-August 8.
Social Media Assistance
Assist Dance Project administrators with implementing social media strategy and maintaining an active online presence across Dance Project’s social media platforms. Must be detail-oriented, creative, computer-savvy, and able to work well independently. Previous experience with all or most of these social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Google+) required. Intern must have access to own laptop/computer. Time frame: Approximately 4-6 hours/week from May 12-August 8 (Intern may be able to work some of these hours remotely.)
Assist the school director with summer camp management and school administration. Learn the behind-the-scenes work of running a community dance program. Skills: Computer-proficient (Microsoft Word and Excel), detail-oriented, independent, good interpersonal communication. Video editing and Photoshop experience preferred. Timeframe: 8-10 hours/week with specific hours based on camp schedules.
In addition to gaining experience, interns may take free summer dance classes at our School, and, with faculty approval, may apply for academic credit.
