Introducing the North Carolina Dance Festival Archives

In celebration of our 25th Anniversary Season, we’ll be introducing a series of archival posts about the history of the NC Dance Festival. In five posts, each spanning five years, we’ll showcase some of the highlights from each year. It’ll be a great way for us to remember our past and to celebrate and look forward to our future!

Here’s a general introduction to the Dance Project, the non-profit founded by Jan Van Dyke that allowed the North Carolina Dance Festival to be born!

  • 1974: The Dance Project was originally formed in 1974 in Washington, D.C., where it served as the managing organization for Jan Van Dyke’s school and performance space as well as her dance company
  • 1989: Dance Project moves from Washington DC to Greensboro, North Carolina
